Blood Work Drawn on my Husband's Birthday.

Updated: Jun 11, 2021

March 4th was my husbands birthday, but he might not have had the best birthday. Really he told me it was okay, his birthday is just another day to him now. However, I did make him his mother's Meatza Pie and a Lemon Supreme Pie for his birthday. Sadly, he also had to bring our goat to the vet to see if we could take her cast off. That is always a fun experience trying to catch a goat that doesn't want to be caught. Anyway, this is our Chim-Chim. We were told to keep her cast on a couple more weeks.

Then, later in the afternoon; after our daughter got off school, her and I had a doctors appointment. Went good, I guess.... As good as a doctors appointment could go. I had my blood work drawn and just received the results. So, being the goal oriented person I am I researched what was wrong and made goals for each one that I could. Here is my blood work results for things that were not within the normal range. One thing I learned being a small business owner, your goals and dreams don't come true unless you write them down and share them with people. So, here are my goals for my blood work.

HIGH BLOODWORK 3/4/2021

Hemoglobin A1c: The desired A1c is between 4.8-6.0. I registered at 8.5, which is lower than November of 2020 (8.7), but higher than before my brain surgery, which was 7.9. I’m still pretty proud of this number considering all the stress I have had during the last three years, and that the ONLY time I had an A1c lower than 10 was when I was on bed rest in the hospital when Tatiana was born. My goal to bring this down is continuing to monitor my blood sugar every two hours and try to remember to bolus if I eat at irregular times. I also am working on taking less sugar during my low episodes. This is my PTSD on taking in too much sugar at a time.

Glucose: H117. The wanted number is between 65-115 Personally, I was very proud of this number considering where my A1c is at. I do not have any goals for this number.

Alkaline phosphatase (ALP). The desired total is 46-116. I registered at 128. ALP is an enzyme found in the liver and bone and is important for breaking down proteins. Higher-than-normal levels of ALP may indicate liver damage or disease, such as a blocked bile duct, or certain bone diseases. According to my research bringing my Vitamin D back up should help bring this number down. An elevated ALP is a hallmark of Vitamin D Deficiency. If it isn’t the Vitamin D deficiency that it is related to damaged liver cells. I’m confused on which one I should ask is true to Dr. Robertson????

Protein Total: The wanted total is 6.4 – 8.2. I registered at 8.3. Too much protein in your blood can be a sign of chronic infection or inflammation (like HIV/AIDS or viral hepatitis). It can also be an early sign of a bone marrow disorder. Not sure about this one? I read drinking lots of water helps. On 5/28/2020 my protein level was 7.1. My goal is to drink at least a glass of water between each cup of coffee I drink.

HDL: The desired total is 30-70. I registered at 72. I believe this was from eating too many egg yolks, because at that time all my stomach could digest without bloating to looking like I was 9 months pregnant was eggs. I have cut back to 1 egg yolk a week and only egg whites from here on out. HDL is known as the “good” cholesterol. Hopefully it will bring my cholesterol back down. I also have been missing about half of my cholesterol medicine at night, so I started taking it in the morning again with my other medicines. According to one of my MANY doctors…. He doesn’t care when I take it. JUST TAKE IT. So this will be my new routine starting 3/20/2021

Vitamin D 25-OH Total: the desired total is 30-100. I registered at 15.6. Dr. Robertson told me to take 5,000 IU Or 5,000 mcg a week? I don’t remember which one. Check back in a 8 weeks after starting the amount he recommended. Start date is 3/22/2021. Make appointment on or around 4/17/2021. Once I have the amount I will take this throughout the day, multiple times a day. YUCK!

PLT (prothrombin time): Is a test to evaluate blood clotting. The desired total is 167-440. I registered at 511. On 5/28/2020 my PLT was 449, still high. A platelet count test or a plt test as it is otherwise known is required to check or diagnose the conditions that can lead to blood-clotting problems. It can indicate various disorders like bone marrow disease, a bleeding disorder or an excessive clotting disorder. A plt examines the platelet count the number of platelets in the blood and is often carried out during a general health examination. This test is useful in determining platelet count normal range for those who are taking medications that could affect the count significantly. It is a useful guide to check if the line of treatment is right for patients with platelet deficiency. I read that a Vitamin B12 Deficiency may cause a higher count, so my goal is to start there before freaking out. You can get B12 from chicken, eggs, milk and fish. I will also take a supplement to help my body since I can only eat so much before becoming sick from my gastroparesis. Fortified breakfast cereals are also a good source of B12. I just realized my B12 was actually right where it needed to be for the blood work done this week. I will have to discuss this number with Dr. Robertson to see what I can do to bring this number down. I will also research ALL of the medications I am on and see if any of them could be raising this number up.

EOS% (Eosinophils): the desired amount is -<=5. I tested high at 14.1. This test measures how your white blood cells are working. Eosinophils do two important things in your immune system: curb infections and boost inflammation, which can help you fight off a disease. An eosinophil count can help diagnose a few conditions. You might have a high count with the following: Acute hypereosinophilic syndrome, a rare condition that’s similar to leukemia and can be life-threatening, An allergic disorder like asthma or hay fever, Autoimmune conditions, An infection caused by a parasite or fungus, A reaction to certain medications, Asthma, Early stages of Cushing’s disease, a rare condition that can happen if you have too much of a hormone called cortisol in your blood, Eczema (itchy, inflamed skin), Leukemia and other blood disorders. I will begin by doing the natural treatments I found on line that can help control the symptoms of an elevated EOS. Some herbal remedies such as licorice and chamomile may help acid reflux symptoms. Acupuncture and relaxation techniques like meditation can also help. If those don’t work I will connect with Dr. Robertson again. If a medication is causing your elevated eosinophil count, it may be discontinued. Maximizing therapy for asthma, eczema, and allergies. Parasite infections are treated with anti-parasitic medications. Steroids such as prednisone may be used to treat hyper eosinophilic syndromes.

EOS, Abs (Absolute eosinophil): The desired amount is -<=.4. I registered in at 1.0. An absolute eosinophil count is a blood test that measures the number of one type of white blood cells called eosinophils. Eosinophils become active when you have certain allergic diseases, infections, and other medical conditions. Same information as above for the EOS%
